15.05.2013 Zürich, Switzerland. 75th anniversary of the Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup, an international youth football tournament. Founded way back in 1898, FC Blue Stars are a Zurich footballing institution. In 1921, the Blue Stars became one of the first clubs in Switzerland to set up a youth section. Some years later, in December 1938, the club launched the Blue Stars annual tournament. Among the young players who became later stars: Nani, Kaka, David Beckham, Paul Scholes and the Neville brothers, Phil and Gary. FIFA took over as patron of the international junior event in 1991, with the change of name to the current Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup following four years later. World football’s governing body and FC Blue Stars Zurich recently extended their cooperation agreement for the Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup through to 2016.
